Salomon Project #3

Salomon Inline Skate Project:

Background Research is vital:

The importance of being in tune with a company's existing marketing strategy--even BEFORE we begin collecting photographic and other material-- was emphasized a lot by three of our DMA instructors:

Joe Bodick (DMA 101), Andrew Tedford (DMA179), and Aviva Furman (DMA 133):

So I visited three stores:

Sportchek at Eaton Centre

Sporting Life at 2665 Yonge

Sportchek at Yorkdale

As mentioned in my previous blog, I talked to the attendant at Yorkdale about demographics, etc. He suggested that I contact the Salomon Toronto Headquarters, which is at Hwy 400 and Langstaff. But before following that suggestion, I emailed Joe and Andrew about the important protocol issues involved.

Andrew’s answer indicated that a BALANCED APPROACH to my learning process is best: Andrew suggested that I don’t actually contact Salomon itself (unless I am getting paid), but at the same time, like Joe said in class one day, working on something which is TOO fictitious (“some magic company”) is also not the best way to learn about the real world, either. A balanced approach is best.

So before I started taking photographs, I researched the Salomon website http://www.salomoninline.com/caus/home.asp . I found:

1. Photos of their product all by itself
2. Photos of their product being used.

SHOWN HERE is my own photo of Salomon skates which combines those two kinds of photos, showing the Salomon name in action (right ankle): Posted by Picasa
